Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has slammed those who criticized his performance in the ‘inconclusive’ Kogi and Bayelsa gubernatorial elections saying they should focus more on the provision of the law rather than sentiments.
This would be the first reaction of the INEC boss after the elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states that had ended inconclusive.
Yakubu made this comment on Tuesday, December 15, at The Electoral Institute, in Abuja where he hosted the 11th Public Lecture of the institute, Vanguard reports.
He noted that this was neither the first nor fifth time that elections would be declared inconclusive, adding that in future, as elections get more competitive and citizens actively participate in the process, more polls could also be inconclusive.
The INEC boss however, added that the commission is already studying what happen in Kogi and Bayelsa with a view to make sure that elections are concluded in the first Meanwhile, INEC may schedule the rerun poll for Southern Ijaw council for December 19, Saturday.The election was annulled after two attempts eight days ago. The Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress had traded blames over the inconclusive election in the local government. Each pointing accusing fingers at the other saying that the other masterminded the flawed poll.
