Argentina's electricity troubles hit home
Argentina starts power rationing and declares a national emergency as demand for electricity almost matches supply. Paul Chapman reports.

Argentina's quite literally in the grip of a power struggle as the nation battles to meet demand for electricity. Now the new government's announced electricity rationing. The energy minister says a state of emergency has also been declared which is likely to remain in place until 2017. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ARGENTINE ENERGY MINISTER JUAN JOSE ARANGUREN SAYING: "Today we're on the brink of collapse. If we take the necessary precautions we can avoid it." The government says electricity generation and distribution across the whole country's deteriorated. Official statistics showed demand on the national grid reaching 23, 000 megawatts this week, just 3, 000 short of the national maximum.
